Cranberry Apple Crisp

Sharing is caring!

(Perfect for Thanksgiving or any cozy fall day!)

When it comes to fall desserts, nothing beats the comfort of a warm fruit crisp fresh from the oven. This Cranberry Apple Crisp is tart, sweet, and full of autumn flavour, the kind of recipe that makes your whole house smell like cinnamon and maple syrup. It’s my go-to when I want something that feels festive but doesn’t require fussing with pastry or dough.

The cranberries bring a bright tang that balances the sweetness of the apples and brown sugar, creating that perfect bite — cozy and refreshing at once.

Why You’ll Love It

  • A perfect balance of sweet and tart — the cranberries pop against the tender apples.
  • Easier than pie (but just as satisfying).
  • A beautiful make-ahead dessert for Thanksgiving or Christmas.
  • Delicious warm or cold — even better the next day!

Ingredients

For the filling:

  • 4 cups sliced apples (about 4–5 medium, any variety)
  • 1 cup fresh or frozen cranberries
  • ¼ cup maple syrup or brown sugar
  • 1 tbsp flour (to thicken)
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ tsp nutmeg
  • 1 tsp lemon juice (optional but brightens the fruit)

For the crisp topping:

  • ¾ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ½ tsp cinnamon
  • ¼ cup cold butter, cubed
  • Pinch of salt

🍂 Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large bowl, toss together the apples, cranberries, maple syrup, flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, and lemon juice. Spread evenly in a buttered 8×8 baking dish.
  3. In another bowl, combine oats, flour, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt. Cut in the butter until crumbly.
  4. Sprinkle topping evenly over the fruit mixture.
  5. Bake for 35–40 minutes, or until the top is golden and the filling is bubbling.
  6. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, or a drizzle of maple syrup.

Tips

  • If using frozen cranberries, no need to thaw first.
  • Use a mix of apple varieties for the best texture and flavor.
  • Swap in pears for half the apples for a softer, spiced version.
